Feb 24: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Feb 23, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 409 new cases of confirmed infections, 620 new cases of suspected infections, and 150 deaths (149 in Hubei province and 1 in Hainan province). 1,846 patients were released from hospitals after being cured. 16,758 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1,053.

As of 24:00 on Feb 23, the National Health Commission had received 77,150 reports of confirmed cases (after correction by Hubei by subtracting 195 double-counted cases) and 2,592 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 24,734 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 49,824 confirmed cases (including 9,915 in serious condition) and 3,434 suspected cases. So far, 635,531 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 97,481 are now under medical observation.

On Feb 23, Hubei reported 398 new cases of confirmed infections (including 348 in Wuhan), 450 new cases of suspected infections (including 318 in Wuhan), and 149 deaths (including 131 in Wuhan). 1,439 patients were released from hospitals after being cured, including 772 in Wuhan.

As of 24:00 on Feb 23, Hubei had reported 64,287 cases of confirmed infections (including 46,607 in Wuhan after correction by subtracting 195 double-counted cases) and 2,495 deaths (including 1,987 in Wuhan). In all, 16,738 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital, including 8,946 in Wuhan. There still remained 45,054 confirmed cases (including 35,674 in Wuhan), with 9,430 in serious condition (including 8,329 in Wuhan), and 2,770 suspected cases (including 1,877 in Wuhan).

As of 24:00 on Feb 23, 112 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 74 in Hong Kong (2 had been dead and 12 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 10 in Macao (6 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 28 in Taiwan (1 had been dead and 5 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
