BEIJING - China's National Museum of Classic Books unveiled a solo exhibition featuring calligraphy work of former Japanese Prime Minister Morihiro Hosokawa Thursday in Beijing.

The exhibition displays 46 pieces of calligraphy by Hosokawa, who is also chairman of the Eisei Bunko Museum in Tokyo.

"Chinese characters and the way they are written have had a profound influence on Japanese culture, and we hope to take this exhibition as an opportunity to further promote cultural exchanges between the two countries," said Chinese Culture and Tourism Minister Luo Shugang at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

The exhibition runs through Dec 15.

Hosokawa donated 4,175 volumes of 36 ancient Chinese books collected by the Eisei Bunko Museum to the National Library of China (NLC) in 2018, according to Rao Quan, curator of the NLC.
