The revenue from the development of cultural and creative products based on the cultural relics collections of China's museums exceeded 4 billion yuan (564 million US dollars) in 2018.

According to statistics released at a conference on the authorization of the use of information from the museums' collections on Thursday, as of last year, more than 40,000 kinds of relevant products are available.

Moreover, China will promote open information sharing in this regard, in a bid to further reinvigorate and make better use of the country's cultural relics resources, according to cultural relics officials.

Museums will be encouraged to authorize the use of resources related to their collections to enterprises and other entities from the public, said Luo Jing, an official with the National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA), at the conference.

Previously, the development of relevant products had relied more on the museums themselves, and the authorization policy will enable more strength from the market to enter this sector, said Liu Yuzhu, head of the NCHA.

To that end, the NCHA issued a guideline regarding the authorization of copyrights, trademarks and brands of museums' collections earlier this year.
