5G fuels 'China's Data Valley'

The rapid growth of 5G technology research and application fuels 'China's Data Valley'-Guiyang, southwest China's Guizhou province.

As one of the country's first 5G pilot cities, Guiyang takes the lead in constructing a 5G network. To date, full 5G coverage has been achieved along the city's Shubo (big data expo) Avenue. In addition, the nation's first joint laboratory of 5G innovation and application, as well as the province's first experimental and commercial 5G station has been established.

Twelve 5G-based applications also have boosted the field, including self-driving cars, drones, and smart transportation. 

By the end of 2018, China Unicom and Guizhou-based HanKaiSi Intelligent Technology Co Ltd tested 5G-based remote-control cars in Guizhou National High-tech Industrial Development Zone. The self-driving cars were deemed safe to execute remote instructions such as moving on, speeding up, braking, and making a turn. In emergency circumstances, the safety manager on the car will take command of the car in 5 milliseconds.

According to the gog.cn's report, a 5G-based drone with superior transmission speed and accuracy has been tested in Guizhou National High-tech Industrial Development Zone. Also in the same zone, following 5G road-monitoring transformations, high definition pictures can be timely transmitted to a manager, which improves parking space utilization and road management.

As China's first big data pilot zone, the presence of internet giants, including Tencent, Huawei, Intel, Alibaba, and Apple, has provided more 5G industrial branches. In the future, Guiyang is expected to be transformed into a fast-connected and smart data valley with 5G technology support.
