Xidi-Hongcun Ancient Village, Huangshan
(西递宏村古村落 xī dì hóng cūn gǔ cūn luò)
About 11 kilometers from Yixian county in Anhui province, Hongcun Ancient Village was once praised as “the fairyland in a Chinese painting”.
With a history of more than 800 years, the village was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000.
Hongcun Ancient Village has 138 original Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) style residences with white walls and black tiles.
Apart from ancient residences, Hongcun Ancient Village’s other highlight is water scenery. Moon Pond, South Lake and the winding streams add color to the village.
Construction of the village began during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127). Listed as a World Heritage Site, the village encompasses many historic and cultural sites.
