(沙家浜虞山尚湖旅游区 shā jiā bāng yú shān shàng hú lyǔ yóu qū)
The Shajiabang•Mount Yu and Shanghu Lake Tourist Area, located in Changshu, Suzhou, combines culture, ecology and leisure activities.
Mount Yu is a national forest park, famous as the burial site of Zhongyong, the second ruler of the ancient Chinese state of Wu. It is important as the place where Wu culture originated.
Shanghu Lake, next to Mount Yu, was widely known as the favorite fishing spot of Jiang Ziya, a Chinese noble who helped kings Wen and Wu of the Western Zhou Dynasty (c.11th century-771BC) overthrow the Shang Dynasty (c.16th century-11th century BC). Wetlands and egrets spread all over the lake, making it a perfect ecological tourism site.
Shajiabang is known for the Peking opera of the same name, which tells stories about what took place at Shajiabang during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1937-45). Therefore, the place features revolutionary traditional education and red tourism.
