The Mountain Resort covers more than 5.64 million square meters. The site was constructed between 1703 and 1792 (during the 42nd year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi to the 57th year of the reign of Emperor Qianlong).

The resort is the largest imperial park in the world and its architecture represents the broad exchange and convergence between Han culture and the ethnic cultures - Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism - and the architectural styles of China's north and south.

The Mountain Resort demonstrates the paramount imperial power and the Qing rulers’ intention of making the resort a splendid miniature of the entire country.

The Mountain Resort was listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO on December 15, 1994.
