Founded in 1956, Fuwai Hospital which belongs to the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (中国医学科学院阜外医院) is a national class A tertiary hospital specializing in cardiovascular diseases.
It is also the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, State Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Disease, and National Clinical Research Center of Cardiovascular Diseases.
The hospital is well-known internationally for treatment of all kinds of complex, difficult, and severe cardiovascular diseases, and has become the world's biggest cardiovascular center, as well as a national center for clinical healthcare, medical research, disease prevention and education.
Through 60 years of development, Fuwai Hospital has established status in three national professional areas in the cardiovascular field. Its construction of a cardiovascular center has begun to take shape. Over the next 60 years, it will continue the "quality and innovative" development approach by strengthening the coordination and development of disciplines relating to cardiovascular diseases, developing the model of integrated comprehensive medical care and prevention, taking full advantage of "big data" and exploring medical service models under the "Internet+" model. It aims to develop innovative mechanisms and systems and establish national (national-level) incubators for new technologies, national digital medical centers for cardiovascular diseases, national centers for cardiovascular interventions and rehabilitation (as a chronic disease care demonstration base) and other research translation platforms to make breakthroughs in key subjects and to improve its position in scientific research and technological competitiveness.
