Beijing Jishuitan Hospital (北京积水潭医院) is a palace garden-like hospital. Built at the end of the Yuan Dynasty Grand Canal on the mast sail bristly wharf -- Jishuitan harbor, it was the Prince Gun's Palace in Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) for more than 200 years. 

In January 28, 1956, Beijing Jishuitan Hospital was built in the former palace site. More than half a century later, the hospital has become a level three first-class general hospital mainly focusing on orthopaedics and burn. 

Beijing Jishuitan Hospital became the fourth medical clinical hospital of Peking University because of its significant medical characteristics and comprehensive strengths in medical, teaching, research, and prevention. Its clinical technology and reach are of world standard and domestically leading for its departments of spine surgery, trauma, adult joint, hand surgery, pediatric, bone tumor, and sports medicine. The hospital includes institutes such as the Beijing Orthopedic Research Institute and Beijing Burn Research Institute, the Beijing Hand Surgery Institute, the Beijing Trauma and Burns Institute,and the Beijing Orthopedic Research and Treatment Center. 

On January 28, 2013, Beijing Jishuitan Hospital Huilongguan Branch was officially founded. It operates departments of internal medicine, general surgery, cardiac surgery, urinary surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, ENT, rehabilitation, infection diseases, endoscopy center, traditional Chinese medicine, ICU, CCU, RICU, EICU, Blood Bank, and digital operating room.

Since 2002, Tian Wei, director of the Spine Surgery Department, along with Beihang University, Beijing TINAVI Medical Technology Co Ltd and Shenzhen Advanced Technology Institute of China Academy of Sciences, created a computer assisted surgery minimally invasive surgery system (CAMISS), in which the image navigation and robot technology is the core of the intelligent orthopaedic surgery system. The system has completely independent property rights, and is the real "made in China" product with less than 1 mm error.
