Covering 6 square kilometers, Beichuan Qiangcheng tourist area, is located in Beichuan Qiang autonomous county in the northwest Sichuan Basin.

It was the first list national 5A scenic area in the city of Mianyang. It includes several attractions, such as the relics area of the 2008 Beichuan earthquake, the newly built Beichuan county, an earthquake memorial hall and a folk art museum for the Qiang ethnic people.

The earthquake memorial hall is the first of its kind in the world to fully preserve relics after a major natural disaster, as a warning and commemoration, and as a place for scientific research.

Founded by Macao Foundation, investment in the folk art museum for the Qiang ethnic group was over 85.88 million yuan ($12.35 million). Its overall area is about 13,000 square meters. The museum has become an important platform for the inheritance and promotion of Qiang’s folk culture. In October 2009, the museum signed a contract to become a branch of China’s National Museum of Ethnology.
