Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, has unveiled policies to boost development of new energy vehicles, aiming for an output of 400,000 vehicles in 2024.

In an action plan to promote the growth of NEVs in the province, Shandong made clear its goal to build Jinan into a super large industrial base for NEV production.

This year, Jinan plans to build 16,000 new charging facilities and 200 public charging and swapping stations, sending a positive signal of continuously optimizing the industrial ecosystem for the sector.

Key projects such as BYD and Geely's new energy vehicles have accelerated production and expanded their manufacturing capabilities. BYD's new energy vehicle output has exceeded 240,000 vehicles in 2023.

The BYD New Energy Passenger Vehicle and Parts Industrial Park is a major industrial project being carried out in Jinan. It is expected to have an annual output of 150,000 complete vehicles, in addition to core components such as electric powertrains and motors.

In addition, BYD has established a presence in Jinan with semiconductor and power battery projects, contributing to the development of Jinan's new energy vehicle industrial chain.

The 14th Five-Year Plan for Energy Development in Jinan proposes that by 2025, Jinan is set to be an internationally renowned and domestically leading new energy vehicle base.

By 2025, the city aims to have more than five key new energy vehicle enterprises and over 10 key component enterprises, with the scale of the industry in the city aiming to exceed 200 billion yuan ($27.8 billion).
