Construction on an ultra-thin flexible glass facility in Quzhou, Zhejiang province started on Dec 18, according to local media reports.

Funded by Beijing-based Tunghsu Group, the facility will produce new-generation flexible display materials with a thickness of less than 0.1 millimeters and is expected to be put into operation by the end of August 2024.

The material will be flexible, rollable, scratch-resistant, strong, and water-and-oxygen-resistant, making it widely applicable in fields such as flexible displays, portable devices, wearable displays, automotive displays, and high-tech equipment, according to Li Zhaoting, president of Tunghsu.

Founded in 1997, Tunghsu owns the one-of-a-kind National Engineering Laboratory for Flat Panel Display Glass Technology and Equipment in China. It has engaged in areas including photonic display materials, high-end equipment manufacturing, semiconductor silicon-carbon materials, new energy generation and components, new energy vehicles, and high-end medical pharmaceutical glass packaging materials.
