Nearly 500 guests attended the Hainan Free Trade Port promotion event, under the theme of "Closer Singapore – Hainan Cooperation to Share in Free Trade Port Opportunities", which was held in Singapore on Thursday.

Organized by the Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce and the Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development, the promotional event aimed to enhance the understanding of all parties in Singapore about South China's Hainan Free Trade Port, complement each other's advantages, and promote win-win opportunities between Singapore and Hainan.

During the event, the Hainan International Economic Development Bureau, the Hainan Department of Industry and Information Technology, and the Hainan Financial Supervisory Bureau conducted thematic presentations on policies and business environment, industrial investment opportunities, financial industry cooperation and other aspects of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

Experts representing Singaporean businesses and talent shared their development experience and cooperation insights with the Hainan Free Trade Port. Speakers included Lim Hong Kian, CEO of Surbana Jurong Group North Asia Division, Pua Seck Guan, COO and executive director of Wilmar International and executive chairman and CEO of Perennial Group, and Lin Guangming, chief planner of the Yangpu Economic Development Zone Management Committee.

The event also witnessed the signing of agreements on five key cooperation projects, covering areas such as finance, trade and services, which aim to facilitate the high-quality development of the Hainan Free Trade Port and deepen bilateral partnership.

Low Yen Ling, Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth and Minister of State for Trade and Industry, called for strengthening the cooperation between Singapore and Hainan.

"Singapore and Hainan should cooperate in the development of renewable and clean energy and low-carbon solutions," she said in a speech. "Discussing technologies and experiences, both sides should draw on the island province's leading position in building clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy systems."

She also suggested that Singapore and Hainan improve their cooperation in the fields of tourism and exhibitions. "By learning from each other's experiences, both sides will be able to lay a strong foundation for future cooperation," she said.
