Yangzhou's sub-district attends conference to showcase cultural heritage

Yangzhou's Zhuxi sub-district showcased its canal heritage at the 2023 World Canal Ancient Town Innovative Development Conference in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province on Nov 14. 

Representatives from 30 canal towns in different countries assembled at the conference to share their stories and experiences, with the Zhuxi sub-district emphasizing the protection and sustainable development of ancient towns.

Zhuxi is situated in Hanjiang district, the heart of Yangzhou. As a district carved by history's remarkableness, it witnessed parks and small businesses erected in recent years.

Shen Zhongjie, on behalf of Zhuxi sub-district, presented achievements in riverbank greenery, canal ecology, and smart canal initiatives. The sub-district, in its development, leveraged its rich history and location advantages.Recent efforts in landscape enhancement and industrial integration have transformed the sub-district into a scenic area. The newly completed China Grand Canal Yuandian Park renews the ancient canal culture, infusing vitality into the history.

The park features historical sites, art installations, a camping base, and illuminated walkways. Residents like 83-year-old Chen Qingkui express joy at the construction of the park, saying it fills a cultural void in the area.

Zhuxi sub-district sees the park's completion as a starting point, pledging ongoing efforts in ecological governance, heritage protection, and dynamic cultural events to further promote development.
