The 26th Chinese medical team to aid Benin organized a one-day free clinic recently to help local patients.

The 11 doctors are from Ningxia Hui autonomous region, focusing on internal medicine, general surgery, orthopedics and gynecology. More than 400 patients lined up on April 11 for treatment, physical examinations and health consultations.

A patient with goiter and congenital deafness traveled 30 kilometers upon learning that the Bohicon Health Center had free services. The patient's condition was confirmed after about 10 years of not knowing what the disease was. That day, about 1,500 prescriptions were offered.

Li Furong, chief physician from First People's Hospital of Yinchuan in Ningxia, the leader of the team, said they arrived in the country in August and worked at two medical institutes. Li hoped the activity would spread health knowledge, increase awareness of health and improve people's ability to avoid illnesses and treat them.

Zhang Bohui, economic and commercial counselor of the Chinese embassy in the Republic of Benin, said this year is the 60th anniversary of China sending medical teams overseas and the 45th anniversary of aid to Benin. The activity showed friendship between China and Benin, and the team will continue to cooperate with local doctors to benefit people's health.
