Kunming reported foreign trade of 199.74 billion yuan ($28.5 billion), surging 16.4 percent year on year, in 2022. Export was 94.64 billion yuan, up 1.2 percent, while export saw a 34.6 percent increase to 10.51 billion yuan.

Kunming Municipal Commerce Bureau will launch policy tools to keep foreign trade stable. The measures include the building of a comprehensive cross-border e-commerce pilot zone to explore a new mode of "market procurement trade + cross-border e-commerce + comprehensive foreign trade services + bonded logistics".

It will formulate supporting policies to export used vehicles, implement plans for building the national import trade promotion and innovation demonstration zones, add RCEP (Kunming) International Expo Center, and promote the development of China-Laos railway cross-border e-commerce.

Meanwhile it will accelerate the construction of the Mohan Import Trade Promotion Demonstration Zone, focusing on cross-border service industries such as light industrial product processing and manufacturing, medical health care, and generic drugs. It will build the China-Laos Mohan-Boten Economic Cooperation Zone into a model area for RCEP cooperation.
