Teaching a course on history, philosophy and politics at Anhui Normal University, Lu Binghui often finds his lectures crowded with students.

"During such a 45-minute class, the students would raise so many good questions that I could not answer well due to the time limit," said Lu, a professor who has worked at the university for 30 years.

In 1992, the first year of his teaching career, Lu established an extracurricular lecture called "Binghui's Random Talk", which has been held more than 350 times over the decades.

"In one of the lectures, I had been standing in front of the students for more than five hours, which made my legs numb for quite a while," said Lu.

A member of the Communist Party of China and delegate to the 20th CPC National Congress, he said all of his efforts were proved worthy, as he felt his guidance and advice were welcomed by the students.

"It has been a common phenomenon that many of the young people are confused about their lives and future. I once conducted a survey among the freshmen and the result showed that 70 percent of them didn't have any clear targets for their time in college," said Lu.

Born in 1968, Lu entered the university to study in 1988, majoring in the Chinese language.

"At the beginning, I was kind of like a customer taking an empty basket to a supermarket, attracted by many goods but not knowing what I really wanted and needed," said Lu.

In the second year, he became fond of a life philosophy course taught by a famous professor.

In 1992, he himself became a teacher of the current subject.
