Forty delegates from East China's Fujian province who are attending the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China have spent the last two days studying and discussing an important report delivered to the congress, said Zhang Yan, member of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, at a media conference on Oct 18.

Zhang also explained how Fujian province has developed over the past 10 years.

Fujian province's gross domestic product made strides by jumping over 2 trillion yuan ($279.02 billion), 3 trillion yuan, and 4 trillion yuan continuously over the past decade, Zhang said.

As Fujian boasts diverse, rich and integrated culture, the province has been bolstering its efforts to boost cultural construction, and has achieved fruitful results over the past decade. It is currently home to four world heritage sites, eight UNESCO intangible cultural heritage items, and 145 national intangible cultural heritage items, Zhang added.

Fujian, as the only province in China with the Chinese character fu in its name, has been exploring and developing its "fu" culture, and plans to continue to promote traditional Chinese culture, based on the platforms of Zhuzi culture, Minnan culture, and Mazu culture, to the world, Zhang said.

Also, the province has made progress in ecological and environmental protection, becoming the first national ecological civilization pilot zone in 2016. Just over 99 percent of Fujian's days have good air quality each year and the proportion of excellent water quality in 12 major river basins in the province has reached 97.3 percent.

Following the report, Fujian province will prioritize ecological development and establish a recyclable low-carbon development system, explore commercial transformation of ecological development, and carry out major projects for ecosystem protection and restoration.
