Feb 18: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Feb 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 87 new cases of confirmed infections (47 imported cases, 21 in Guangdong province, 13 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Fujian province, 3 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 2 in Jilin province, 2 in Shandong province, 2 in Yunnan province and 1 in Sichuan province, including 5 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases in Guangdong; 40 indigenous cases, 22 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region including 21 in Hohhot and 1 in Baotou, 9 in Huludao, Liaoning province, 4 in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, 4 in Guangdong including 3 in Shenzhen and 1 in Dongguan, and 1 in Honghe Hani and Yi autonomous prefecture, Yunnan), 6 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 84 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 2,164 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases remained the same.

As of 24:00 on Feb 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 13,248 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 12,508 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 740 confirmed cases (including 1 case in serious condition) and 6 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Feb 17, the National Health Commission had received reports of 107,375 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 101,316 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,423 confirmed cases (including 7 cases in serious condition) and 6 suspected cases. 1,570,254 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 30,046 were still under medical observation.

On Feb 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 45 new asymptomatic cases (25 imported cases; 20 indigenous cases, 12 in Jiangsu including 10 in Suzhou and 2 in Wuxi, 7 in Yunnan including 4 in Dehong Dai and Jingpo autonomous prefecture, 2 in Honghe Hani and Yi autonomous prefecture and 1 in Wenshan Zhuang and Miao autonomous prefecture, and 1 in Zhuhai, Guangdong). 55 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 51 imported cases) and 5 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (all were imported cases). As of 24:00 on Feb 17, 706 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 605 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Feb 17, 40,218 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 20,342 in Hong Kong (238 had died and 15,448 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 79 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 19,797 in Taiwan (852 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
