In order to accelerate the creation of the Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City with high international recognition and a first-class intellectual property (IP) business environment, the Sanya Yazhou Bay Overseas Intellectual Property Protection Alliance was formally established on Sept 4.

The alliance will gather high-end overseas IP rights protection service resources, and focus on the prevention of IP risks in enterprises' overseas investments, mergers, acquisitions, exhibitions and product layouts. It will provide services to enhance enterprises' awareness of overseas IP risk prevention and dispute response capabilities.

Lu Guoliang, consultant of the China Office of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), stated that the establishment of the alliance will help Chinese companies conduct high-quality international trade through the Hainan Free Trade Port, and adapt to the complex international IP situation.

The alliance was initiated and established by enterprises and institutions involved in overseas IP affairs and international industries in the Hainan FTP. It recruited experts and scholars from Beijing Zhirui Overseas Intellectual Property Research Institute, China University of Political Science and Law, AstraZeneca, iFLYTEK and other organizations. The first batch of member units absorbed by the alliance totaled 21 and include enterprises and institutions involved in overseas affairs in the industrial park.
