My life in China

This video symbolizes my main two passions in China — my work and my travels. I feel incredibly fortunate to have the job that I do and a job which allows me to interact with hundreds of people each day, both for educational and social means. I'm able to work with wonderful students, co-teachers and other faculty members every day. The saying is that 'if you enjoy your job, you'll never work a day in your life' and I firmly believe I have that job and experience here in China. In my video I also wanted to show my appreciation for the other parts of China that we perhaps take for granted, including the bao'ans who help to keep us safe and secure. Finally, my video would not be complete without my main passion — travelling! I absolutely love seeing new places in this fantastic country and I truly believe that China is one of the few countries which can offer everything that I need. Need snow? Head to Dongbei! Need greenery and mountains? You have Zhejiang, Guizhou and so many others. Deserts, grasslands and starry skies? You have Ningxia, Gansu and so many other options! I never feel short of options when trying to travel in China, in fact the biggest problem I face is trying to narrow down my choices as there are so many unique places on my bucket list to see! I really look forward to experiencing more adventures in this fantastic country. Thank you in advance for viewing my video.

Hello, my name is Tom Lake and I'm a Business English lecturer at Shanghai University. I've lived in China since 2015, living in both Changzhou, in Jiangsu, and Shanghai. In my spare time I enjoy running and sporting events as well as travelling around the country and the world. I've been to over eighty countries around the world and also many places in China. So far, my favourite places in China are the Shapotou desert and Xi'an's Muslim Quarter, both are fantastic places! I'm always looking to travel to a new place and see new cultures as I believe this can improve myself and my knowledge of the world.
