Thanks to the joint efforts of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation (CDPF) and the State Language Commission (SLC), the Chinese National Sign Language Digital Promotion Center and the Chinese Common Braille Research and Promotion Center were launched on June 28.

Cheng Kai, vice-chairman of the CDPF, attended the unveiling ceremony held at the China Braille Library.

The launch of the two centers is a concrete action taken by the CDPF and the SLC to enhance standardization of sign language and Braille during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period in an effort to provide a more accessible environment for hearing-impaired and vision-impaired persons so they can be better included in society.

Based on the pioneering work done by the Huaxia Publishing House and the China Braille Press in previous years in this field, the two centers will focus on the nationwide standardization and promotion of sign language and Braille according to the sign language and Braille standardization action plan (2021-25) jointly issued by eight government departments including the CDPF, the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the Ministry of Education and the SLC.
