Statistics show that during the Double-11 shopping festival, which started pre-sale activities a few days before November 11, the pre-sales of physical commodities in Xiamen had exceeded 1.9 billion yuan ($288 million) as of the end of Oct 31, a year-on-year increase of 95 percent, ranking first in Fujian.

Pre-sales of clothing, shoes, knitwear, and textiles in Xiamen totaled 770 million yuan, the highest in Fujian, while pre-sales of daily necessities were valued at 610 million yuan, second place in the province, according to statistics.

The government's full support has contributed to the rapid development of Xiamen's e-commerce business. Earlier this year, the city's commerce authorities rolled out 18 supporting measures to accelerate the quality development of the e-commerce sector and create new opportunities for local e-commerce enterprises.

Xiamen was listed as a national e-commerce demonstration city in 2011, laying a solid foundation for the city's e-commerce industry and offering strong support for the innovative development of new forms of business in the city, such as livestreaming e-commerce.

The city is now home to a number of national bases and digital platforms for e-commerce, including Meiyou, an online platform engaged in services for women, and Anta, China's leading sportswear maker, all of which have laid a solid foundation for the city's e-commerce sector.

The Double 11 shopping gala, the world's largest online shopping event, runs from Nov 1 to 20 this year, and Tmall Singles Day sales reached 372.3 billion yuan in the 10 days and 30 minutes since Nov 1.
