Sheep donated by Mongolia arrive at N China port

A total of 30 trucks carrying 4,000 sheep donated by Mongolia arrived at the border city of Ereenhot in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Oct 20.

It is the first batch of the 30,000 sheep that Mongolia donated to China when Mongolian President Khaltmaa Battulga visited in February, demonstrating Mongolia's support for China's fight against COVID-19.

The remaining 26,000 sheep are still under quarantine in the border town of Zamyn-Uud in Mongolia. They will be sent to China in groups before mid-November.

All the sheep will be slaughtered in Ereenhot city after passing quarantine and then delivered to Central China’s Hubei province, which was hit hard by the COVID-19 epidemic.

Ereenhot Port is fully responsible for the sheep transfer task. Green channels have been opened to guarantee the smooth customs clearance of the sheep.

Ereenhot Port is the largest border checkpoint and land port in China that opens to neighboring Mongolia. It is across the border from Zamyn-Uud in Mongolia and 714 kilometers away from Mongolia’s capital city, Ulaanbaatar.

Due to its unique location advantages and convenient customs clearance environment, the port is responsible for more than 60 percent of the rail and road freight transportation traffic between China and Mongolia.

From January to September, the port's import and export cargo volume reached 1,471.8 metric tons, an increase of 6.3 percent. It also handled 1,729 transit China-Europe freight trains, an increase of 62.5 percent.
