Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, the once hardest-hit region by COVID-19 in the country, saw 1.83 million outbound railway trips during the National Day Holiday from Oct. 1-8, according to the China Railway Wuhan Group Co., Ltd.

The figure equals 70 percent of that of the corresponding period last year, said the company, which handles the railway services in Hubei and parts of Henan and Anhui provinces.

About 630,000 passengers traveled on Thursday via the railway company as the national holiday draws to a close. Wuhan's three biggest stations of Wuhan, Wuchang, and Hankou handled over 33 percent of the total trips.

Strict anti-epidemic measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of passengers, and the railway transport capacity has been reinforced during the holiday, said the company.
