Solid waste disposal projects completed in Baotou

A total of 20 solid waste disposal and comprehensive utilization projects have been completed in Baotou in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, as part of its broader efforts to become a zero-waste city, according to a report in the Baotou Evening News.

Officials said the 20 projects are among 80 solid waste disposal and comprehensive utilization projects with a total investment of 17.1 billion yuan ($2.42 billion).

They said 34 of the projects are currently under construction in Baotou and the remaining 24 will start construction before the end of July.

Since the beginning of this year, Baotou city has vigorously promoted the transformation of itself into a zero-waste city. It has established a lead group and formulated the Pilot Implementation Plan for the Construction of Zero-waste City in Baotou.

The city deployed staff members from nine related departments to form a team, focusing on on-site supervision of 52 indicators and 48 tasks, in order to promote the implementation of various goals and tasks.

In order to significantly reduce pollutant emissions at source, various regions and departments in the city are continuing to eliminate backward and low-end excess capacity.

The city is also supporting the development of energy-saving and environmental protection industries, supporting the recycling transformation of industrial parks and vigorously promoting cleaner production methods.
