Work on a feasibility study, overall planning, preliminary design and budget estimates for a new airport in Hohhot – the capital city of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region – has been approved, according to local officials. They said construction of the first section of the terminal area will start in July this year.

Officials said a terminal covering 260,000 square meters, a parking apron, a traffic transfer center covering 50,000 sq m, a parking building of 95,000 sq m and auxiliary facilities for maintenance, firefighting and rescues are to be built.

The 4F (3,800 meters long and 45 meters wide) and 4E (3,400 meters long and 45 meters wide) runways and corresponding taxiing and connecting road systems will be constructed in the north and south airport areas, respectively.

The new airport will cover an area of 12.62 square kilometers in total and will cost 23.109 billion yuan ($3.27 billion) to build.

Officials said the Inner Mongolia People’s Government and the New Development Bank have signed a 4.2 billion-yuan project loan agreement.

The Hohhot Airport Construction Management Investment Co has signed a comprehensive strategic agreement with State-owned banks to obtain long-term loan credit.

Officials said in the current year, the preliminary approval procedures for the airport project, the construction drawings, the tender process and work on flight area projects have continued to make progress.
