Yangzhou looks to boost nighttime economy

As nighttime economy becomes increasingly popular in China, the amount of nighttime visitors to the Hongqiaofang night market in Yangzhou is continuing to go up.

A total of 30 booths are set up at the Hongqiaofang night market on a regular basis, offering local specialties, clothes, cultural products and traditional performances.

Recently, cities around China have started allowing people to set up roadside booths or food stalls on the streets, aiming to help increase incomes and revive local economies hit hard by the novel coronavirus outbreak.

A visitor from Nanjing surnamed Lu expressed excitement about taking a night market tour in Yangzhou. He said the crowded market shows real local life in the city and reminded him of his childhood.

More and more merchants are showing interest in renting booths at the market, as they have noticed the increasing number of visitors at night, according to Wang Yan, director of the management office of the Hongqiaofang night market.

Wang said that they are planning to invite local craftsmen and performers to display the characteristic culture of Yangzhou at the night market.
