May 29: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 28, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported no new cases of confirmed infections, no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 3 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 479 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.

As of 24:00 on May 28, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,734 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,688 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 46 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 28, the National Health Commission had received reports of 82,995 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 78,291 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 70 confirmed cases (including 4 in serious condition) and 5 suspected cases. So far, 744,228 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 5,591 are now under medical observation.

On May 28, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 5 new asymptomatic cases (including 1 imported case). 9 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all are indigenous cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 28, 409 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 25 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 28, 1,552 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,066 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 1,035 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 441 in Taiwan (7 had been dead and 420 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
