Ordos in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region will invest 6 billion yuan ($844.7 million) to build and renovate 976.4 kilometers of road this year, in a bid to accelerate the construction of a modern comprehensive transport network, according to local officials.

In 2020, Ordos will focus on the expansion of the Baotou-Dongsheng section of the Baotou-Maoming Highway, the construction of the Dongsheng Tianmanliang-Yuejiahao section of the No 210 National Highway and the Ordos section of the No 338 National Highway connecting Galutu in Uxin Banner to Wulan town in Otog Banner.

It will also focus on the Ordos section of the No 317 Provincial Highway connecting Taoli in Uxin Banner to Angsu in Otog Front Banner and the Ordos section of the No 21 Provincial Highway connecting Dafanpu in Jungar Banner to the Longkou Highway.

Ordos officials said that all the five projects will be completed and open to traffic by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Ordos will ramp up the construction of 300 km of roads to its poverty-stricken areas, with the aim of improving regional transport conditions and driving the development of tourism.

In addition, Ordos will push to improve the operational quality and service efficiency of its buses, improve short-distance rural bus routes and launch direct buses connecting the city’s railway stations to the Ordos Ejin Horo International Airport.
