It charts the history of the CPC Central Committee during its half-year residence at northwestern Beijing's Fragrant Hills from March to September in 1949, when the CPC Central Committee, spearheaded by Mao Zedong (1893-1976), prepared for the liberation of the entire country and planned for the establishment of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), and the setting up of the Central People's Government.

The exhibition tells the story chronologically in five sections that include the CPC's relocation of its headquarters from Xibaipo to Beijing, the residing at Fragrant Hills, the command of the liberation war, the preparation for a new China, and the resilient leadership.

The exhibition adopts various media, making for a captivating experience. About 800 images (including maps, tables, and newspaper articles), 1,200 relics (such as publications and archives), and artworks are displayed in a gallery of 5,500 square meters, all witnessing or contributing to the historical moments essential to the establishment of CPC's leadership.

Offering a close-up view and narration of the related history, color photographs taken by the Soviet photographer Vladislav Mikosha (1909-2004)in 1949 over the founding ceremony are displayed and eight rarely-seen documentaries are broadcast in the gallery (namely the Peaceful Liberation of Beiping, Military Parade at the Xiyuan Airport, Battle of Crossing-the-Yangtze-River, Marching Forward to the Entire Country, Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Monument to the People's Heroes, and The Founding Ceremony of PRC).
