Updated: May 11, 2020 Print

The Qixia apple in Yantai, Shandong province was recently included on a list of famous regional brands in Shandong province. Nine local brands made the list.

Since 2016, Yantai’s apples and cherries, Laiyang’s pears, and Haiyang’s persimmons were all included on the list of provincial brands, more than any other city in Shandong province. The city also tops Shandong in terms of number of provincial product brands, with 48.

Yantai is looking to cultivate and promote its local brands in an effort to become an international city with a strong industrial foundation.

The government is particularly focused on the promotion of its agricultural products, including wine, cherries, sea cucumbers, and Longkou fensi (vermicelli made from bean starch).

The city's fruit, wine, and sea products are extremely popular across China. Yantai apples, with a brand value of 14.14 billion yuan ($2.02 billion), have been the leading fruit brand in China for the past 11 years.

To stimulate local agricultural development, the city has been stressing the importance of innovation, quality improvement, and marketing platforms.
