Jinan, capital of Shandong province, detailed the city's new prevention and control measures for people traveling from abroad at a news conference on March 23 to further curb the spread of the novel coronavirus pneumonia.

A total of 4,665 people - 4,401 Chinese nationals and 264 foreigners - entered Jinan from Feb 10 to March 21, and 2,274 of them are still under quarantine observation, officials said.

Arrivals in Jinan from overseas are required to report their information to the city government at least 48 hours in advance of their arrivals, including their date of return, flight number, port of entry, residence history, health condition, identity information, and contact information.

People who do not truthfully report their health conditions when entering Jinan will be punished according to the law.

Overseas returnees must be quarantined for 14 days at designated sites and at their own expense. If necessary, inbound travelers can be self-isolated for 14 days at home after approval by local authorities.

For those who arrived in Jinan and transferred in Beijing before, local authorities set up a special working team and arranged chartered buses to take travelers to the designated quarantine sites.

Those who entered Jinan and transferred at Qingdao, Yantai and Weihai ports before, will be picked up by local district and county governments to their designated quarantine places.

For inbound travelers from other provinces, registration points were set up at Jinan railway stations and Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport. Travelers must declare their information at the entrances and will then be taken to designated places for quarantine.

Experts said that the safest way to get to Jinan from other provinces and cities such as Shanghai and Guangzhou is by air, due to the short travel time.

Here are some photos recording how Jinan local staff members work to pick up arrivals at the Jinan West Railway Station and take them to the designated quarantine site in Jinan Innovation Zone on March 23.
