The world's largest "ro-ro" (roll-on/roll off) vehicle ship,Siem Confucius, set sail from Xiamen Port in Xiamen city, East China's Fujian province, local media reported March 17.

The ship, which boasts 7,500 parking spaces, was co-manufactured by Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co Ltd and Siem Car Carriers, and was headed for Ulsan port in South Korea.

Fueled with liquefied natural gas (LNG), the ship is environmentally friendly and energy-saving, and is a leading example of innovation in the construction of ro-ro vehicle ships.

Measuring 199.9 meters long, 38 meters wide and 14.8 meters deep, the ship is designed with 13-story car decks which can hold 7,500 vehicles, the largest capacity of any ro-ro LNG vessel in the world.

Customs authorities have made full preparations to ensure a successful journey for the ship and provide the crew with health guidance and medical advice due to the global spread of COVID-19. Xiamen Customs also issued a special certificate for sanitary management, with the aim of reducing the frequency of inspections outside of China to lower the risk of infections.
