Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, announced earlier Tuesday that it will take more thorough and stricter measures across the city to prevent and control the spread of the novel coronavirus.

A statement issued by the city's government showed that 10 measures, including the implementation of closed-off management over living and working areas, will be adopted in the fight against the virus spread in Hangzhou.

Residents are required to show their identity cards and have their temperature taken when getting in and out of neighborhoods where they live, and the companies where they work, according to the statement. The entry of non-native residents and vehicles will be strictly controlled, it said.

The Hangzhou government also required people having fever or cough symptoms to seek medical help promptly and inform the management teams of their villages or communities. Those from severely hit places in the past 14 days should report their conditions to the communities or villages immediately.

Hangzhou will shut down public places, excluding those concerning people's daily lives, according to the official document, and spaces such as food markets, pharmacies and supermarkets will be disinfected regularly.

The statement showed that those who refuse to follow instructions in the prevention and control work will be held accountable.

As of midnight on Feb 3, Hangzhou reported 14 new confirmed patients of the novel coronavirus, taking the total confirmed cases to 132.
