Chengdu is the largest trading center in western China, covering Sichuan province and more than 300 million people in the western region, forming a hierarchical urban business system. In 2018, Chengdu’s total retail sales of consumer goods was 680.1 billion yuan ($97.52 billion), with an increase of 10 percent. According to Jones Lang LaSalle'sDestination Retail, Chengdu is the third largest city in China after Shanghai and Beijing in terms of global retail growth. Chengdu has the largest number of commercial complexes in China and the second largest area of shopping malls under construction in the world. At present, Chengdu is deepening the pilot reform of its service industry and pushing traditional trade centers towards becoming regional international trade centers. Chengdu will accelerate its evolution into an international gourmet capital, a core city of the national service industry, a national modern business center, and a shopping paradise with international influence.
