Wuhan Industrial Institute for Optoelectronics in Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone – also called the Optics Valley of China, which is located in central  Hubei province -- recently signed up with Japan's Shizuoka University to co-establish an optoelectronic technology transfer center.

Under the agreement, Wuhan and Shizuoka University will select high-quality companies and projects in both China and Japan – providing them with training, incubations, platforms, resources and investment to promote the transfer of optoelectronic technologies from Japan to China.

Hidenori Mimura, professor at Shizuoka University's Research Institute of Electronics, said the cooperation between Optics Valley of China and Hamamatsu, home of Shizuoka University and Japan's optoelectronics research center, would combine China's advantages in marketing and Japan's advantages in technology to benefit both countries.

In future, Optics Valley of China will work with Japan's top minds in core technologies through the transfer center -- to carry out customized R&D and finally transfer them to Optics Valley of China.

Some 30 projects from leading international universities and institutes involved in optoelectronics were also signed on the same day, worth a total of 2.13 billion yuan ($303.84 million).
