New progress has been made in the construction of Hohhot Metro Line 1 and 2 recently, according to a Nov 20 report in the Hohhot Daily.

The first phase of Hohhot Metro Line 1 successfully passed what is known as the full-scale hot smoke test.

The hot smoke test is an important part of the pre-operational safety assessment of an urban rail transit facility.

It mainly detects the reliability and status of disaster prevention equipment.

These include fire detectors, alarms, smoke exhaust systems, evacuation, emergency lighting and other indicators activated after a fire occurs.

The test determines whether the fire protection system can ensure the timely and safe evacuation of passengers in case of fire or other accidents.

Following approval from the construction unit and the supervision unit, the main substation of Hohhot Metro Line 2’s Genghis Khan Square Station has operational power transmission.

Construction work on the metro project began in 2016.

In 2018, Line 1 successfully got the green light from the authorities with the line assessed as having a smooth track assembly, without the need for any adjustment to the route’s alignment or gradient.

This year, construction work on the underground rail track and the housing for the electric wires was completed. Equipment installation and final decorations began and the facility officially started trial operations on Sept 6.

Officials said Line 2 is expected to go into trial operations in June 2020.
