A Level 4 autonomous driving heavy truck developed by Beiben Trucks Group Co made its debut on Nov 22, according to a report in the Baotou Daily newspaper.

The heavy truck, with a load capacity of 30 tons, features a Beiben V3 long-driving high-top cab and comes in the color white.

In contrast to conventional heavy trucks, there are eight cameras mounted on the front of the truck, which are used to detect obstacles at medium and long range.

Two laser radars are installed on both sides of the middle of the front of the car, which can scan the vehicle 360 degrees in real time.

Several ultrasonic radars are installed under the front of the vehicle. These sensing devices work together to form a heavy truck sensing system.

At present, the autonomous driving truck has an automatic cruising speed of 110 km per hour on highways. It can complete many maneuvers such as automatic parking, automatic U-turns, automatic obstacle avoidance and multi-lane changes.

Funded by seven companies -- including China North Industries Group, China North Industries Corporation, and Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group -- Beiben Trucks Group Co is a Baotou-based truck manufacturer that is on the fast track to further success, boasting total assets currently of 15.3 billion yuan ($2.18 billion).

The company has advanced vehicle assembly, cab, frame and axle production lines -- utilizing 2,218 sets of various types of equipment, including 252 sets of imported equipment.

According to industry observers, the company’s specialist production lines and manufacturing equipment have made it synonymous with excellent product quality in the trucks sector.

The company is one of the first heavy truck manufacturers in China to have obtained the ISO9001 standard, GJB9001B standard quality system certification, national automotive product CCC certification and ISO14001 environmental system certification.

At present, the company operates two advanced technology and research centers based in Baotou and Beijing, both of which operate in a fully digital environment.

Its products have been sold to more than 100 countries and regions globally.
