Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone of Central China's Hubei province recently put Wuhan's first smart crosswalk into operation.

Located at the intersection of Luoyu Road and Jiayang Road, the crosswalk serves as a smart traffic facility to prevent the running of red lights and to control traffic.

In addition to traffic lights on the sides of the road, lights equipped on the ground will show the corresponding color with the traffic light during rainy and foggy days to remind pedestrians, especially those that may be looking down at their smartphones, while crossing the road.

The crosswalk's control system is connected with the road network monitoring system to take snap shots of traffic violations, which is expected to improve traffic efficiency and reduce traffic accidents.
