West China Hospital of Sichuan University

West China Hospital of Sichuan University, also known as Huaxi Hospital or the International Hospital of Sichuan province, is a prestigious and well-known medical center located in Chengdu, the provincial capital.

Established in 1892, the hospital has developed into a national 3A-grade comprehensive hospital enjoying a great reputation in China and the world. It is the national diagnosis and treatment center for difficult and complicated diseases, emergency treatment and critical diseases in west China.

Owning three campuses, the hospital has a medical treatment area of over 33 hectares and a building area of more than 500,000 square meters. It has 4,300 patient beds.

It has set up 44 clinical departments and nine medical laboratories. The highest record for daily patient numbers in the emergency and outpatient departments is over 20,000. The hospital owns 99 standard operating rooms and the daily number of surgical operations conducted has surpassed 500.

In 2018, the annual patient number of the emergency and outpatient departments amounted to 5.44 million and the number of surgical operations conducted reached 175,300.

The advanced medical facilities in the hospital, including 11 MRI, 11 spiral CT, Da Vinci robotic surgery system and gamma knife, are worth 2.2 billion yuan ($318 million).

The hospital employs over 8,000 staff members, with 926 holding senior titles.

It has carried international cooperation and communication with prestigious medical institutions such as Massachusetts General Hospital, the Mayo Clinic, the University of California, Los Angeles, Griffith University in Queensland, Australia, and the University of Western Australia.
