Qinghai Nationalities University

Qinghai Nationalities University was set up in December 1949 and is the first modern institution for higher learning on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

The university carried out undergraduate education in 1956 and enrolled its first batch of graduate students in 1979, making it the first college in Qinghai province to award degrees and provide postgraduate education.

The university has three campuses, covering more than 100 hectares with a building area of 504,300 square meters. It has a multifunction gymnasium that can hold over 3,000 people. A student activity center measuring 16,000 sq m is under construction.

The university's library houses 1.53 million paper books and 936,700 electronic books, including 120,000 books written in ethnic characters.

The establishment of the university was aimed to service students of ethnic minorities and those from ethnic minority areas, and has educated over 89,000 students. Currently, 13,918 students attend the university, with 7,769 (55.8 percent) being from 31 minorities such as Han, Tibetan, Hui, Mongolian, Tu and Salar.

Qinghai Nationalities University has 24 colleges covering nine fields: literature, science, law, economics, management, pedagogy, history, medicine, and engineering. The university employs 1,139 staff members and 392 of those hold senior titles.

In addition, the university has carried out international cooperation and communication with 38 universities from 11 countries and regions such as the University of Virginia, Dresden University of Technology, Japan's Nanzan University, South Korea's Hannam University and Taiwan's Chinese Culture University.
