The seond major happening -- the Shanxi Xinghuacun Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles – will be held on Sept 19-22. Fenyang county has collected 1400 kinds of liquor samples from all over the world in the runup to the event. More than 90 judges are to take part in their evaluation, said Liu Jinping, deputy mayor of Lyuliang city, at the press conference.

Fenyang county has long been committed to establishing a core production area for mild aromatic Chinese spirits for export, with liquor production exceeding 130,000 tons and the output value amounting to 11.4 billion yuan ($1.66 billion) in 2018.

The county has 72 brewing companies and four nationally prominent liquor brands, including Fenjiu and Xinghuacun, and 19 leading provincial brands.

It invested 25.12 billion yuan in developing the Fenyang Xinghuacun Economic and Technological Development Zone, the only development zone led by the liquor industry in Shanxi province.

To date, the development zone has attracted 47 wineries and its production capacity for mild aromatic Chinese spirits has topped 200,000 tons, accounting for over two thirds of the total from Shanxi province.
