Chongqing Normal University was founded in 1954 and has become an important training base for higher education professionals in South China.

Every year, the university attracts about 500 international students from Asia, Europe, and North America with various scholarship programs.

Chongqing Normal University consists of 17 schools, one independent secondary college, one doctoral program in a general discipline, 24 master's programs in general disciplines, 72 full-time undergraduate education programs, and 14 municipal key general disciplines covering 11 subjects, including philosophy, law, economics, education, literature, and science.

The university is currently home to over 25,000 full-time undergraduate students and over 4,000 master's or doctoral candidates. Faculty members include more than 2,000 full-time teachers, half of whom have senior titles or doctoral degrees.

Over recent decades, the university has produced numerous graduates, many of whom have become key figures in education, the economy, culture and technology.

Chongqing Normal University has established sound partnerships with education institutes in more than 30 countries and regions, including Russia, North America, Australia and Britain. It has established overseas education institutes in Rwanda, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom and the United States.
