A traditional Chinese painting exhibition kicked off in Rijeka, Croatia on June 12, with 71 paintings by renowned Chinese artists on show.

The activity's slogan is "Ink and Wash of the Orient" and it is sponsored by the art fund of Jiangsu province. It is meant to celebrate the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up and promote Chinese culture in countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

At the opening ceremony, the School of Art of Nantong University (NTU) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Academy of Applied Arts of the University of Rijeka (UNIRI).

According to the memo, the two sides will cooperate in art-related education and research and promote teacher and student exchanges.

UNIRI has contributed a lot to this exhibition and will work to share Chinese ink and wash paintings with the world, said Zhang Wei, director of NTU’s art school.

At the ceremony, Zhang and Letricija Linardic, director of UNIRI’s applied arts academy, also unveiled the nameplate for the academy’s new Chinese art research center

More than 400 locals took part in the event, in which local artists and experts from NTU held art-related discussions.
