Southern Medical University Nanfang Hospital is a 3A-grade hospital integrating medical, teaching, scientific research and preventive healthcare. It was the First Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University and was founded in 1941. 

The hospital now has seven campuses covering 203,000 square meters, with a construction area of 458,000 sq m. The number of emergency cases 2018 is 3,254,600, and the number of discharged patients was 119,000. 

The hospital has set up 111 medical and therapeutic departments, including one national key discipline (internal medicine), one national key cultivation discipline, and 31 provincial clinical key specialists. It also has four national key disciplines in traditional Chinese medicine and 14 national key clinical specialization construction projects. 

The hospital has a national key laboratory for organ failure prevention and control, the National Clinical Medical Research Center for chronic kidney disease, the Southern Institute of Gastroenterology and the Guangdong Institute of Liver Diseases. 

There are 4,271 professional and technical personnel at the hospital, including 603 senior professional and technical positions, 118 doctoral tutors and 131 master’s tutors. The hospital undertakes the management and training of more than 2,500 full-time undergraduate students and more than 1,000 full-time graduate students each year.
