Sea urchin in Dalian is also known as ciguozi, and the city is renowned for its purple sea urchin which is rich in Xiaoping island, Changhai county. The best time to taste the delicacy is between June and mid September, with mature sea urchin appearing ginger yellow. No matter if you eat it raw or cook it with steamed eggs, soup, it always tastes tender and delicious.
