Zhangjiakou Chongli International Skiing Festival (January-February)

The Chongli County International Skiing Festival is known as the biggest and most fashionable skiing event in North China.

Chongli county, located 200 kilometers from Beijing, built its first natural ski resorts in 1996. In 2000, the Chongli County International Skiing Festival opened and it became the annual event. Since 2005, the county has held one or two international skiing competitions each year.

Chongli County has been recognized as the most genial place for developing ecological skiing tourism in recent years, and has become a tourist resort mainly specializing in skiing and integrates summer resort, sightseeing, and recreation, and a new highlight of Hebei province’s winter tourism.

Zhangjiakou Bashang Grassland Cultural Month (July-August)

The Zhangjiakou Bashang Grassland Cultural Month, with its theme of “Walking into verdure, and gathering on the Grassland”, is held annually in July and August at Bashang, Zhangjiakou, Hebei province.

The Bashang Grassland lies to the northwest of Hebei province and the southern edge of the Inner Mongolian Plateau (nicknamed Bashang). The average elevation of the grassland is between 1,400 and 1,600 meters.

To intensively display the unique appeal of Bashng Grassland and build a tourist cultural brand with regional characteristics and modern ideas, the relevant departments of Hebei province, Zhangjiakou and Zhangbei county jointly launched the Bashang Grassland cultural month. During the busiest month for tourism, the organizers hold large-scale campfire parties, fireworks parties, and performances of Mongolian songs and dances, local dramas, horse-riding shows, as well as wrestling.

Kangbao International Grassland Kite Festival

The Kangbao International Grassland Kite Festival annually opens in Kangbao county, Zhangjiakou city, Hebei province, and lasts for three days. The festival, organized at the Kangba Noel Grassland in Kangbao county of Hebei province, will see teams from Germany, US, New Zealand, Ukraine and China present their kite flying skills.

Grassland Kite Festival has become a new attraction for tourists in Zhangjiakou. So far Kangbao county has successfully held four consecutive events. The main activities include ethnic music and dance performances, horse riding, archery, Mongolian wrestling, and the most important activity - flying kites in various shapes.
