Suozhuang Village

Suozhuang village is an ancient village with a history of more than 1,000 years. People started to live in the place in the Jin Dynasty (265-420), and a village was formally set up there in the late Tang Dynasty (618-907).

The village, nestling under a mountain, near a river and boasting numerous springs, enjoys beautiful natural scenery and fresh air. There are also many precious cultural relics which are still in good condition in the village. Wenchang Pavilion, at the western end of the village street, was built during the reign of Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty, and was used to honour Wenchang Wang, a Taoist deity in Chinese Mythology known as the God of Culture and Literature.

The place also retains some traditional customs, such as a temple fair to celebrate the Chinese Longtaitou Festival, or Dragon Head-raising Festival, which refers to the start of spring and the farming season and falls annually on the second day of the second lunar month.
