Jinan, the capital city of East China's Shandong province, boasts more than 9,000 years of history and profound historic culture. There are many places of historic and cultural interests worth visiting in the city, including ancient villages. Here are some of the ancient villages in Jinan city.

Zhujiayu Village

Zhujiayu village in Jinan is a typical mountain village in the northern area of China. As a "Chinese historic and cultural village" in Shandong province, it is now a national AAAA scenic spot.

The village enjoys beautiful natural scenery, ringed on three sides by mountains with more than 20 springs in the area. It also has profound historic and cultural relics. Unearthed pottery proves humans lived in the place about 3,800 years ago. The village, developed in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), still has more than 200 ancient buildings (including the ancestral temple for the Zhu family and the old-style private school), 99 stone bridges and 66 wells.

The village has a long history of attaching great importance to education. During the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and the Republic of China (1912-1949), there were more than 17 old-style private schools in the place. In the early 20th century, modern education was introduced to the village. In 1932, a girls' school, one of the first in rural China, was set up there.

Zhujiayu is one of the best places for visitors to get close to Jinan's historic culture and enjoy splendid natural views.
